Business meets and mixes with pleasure:

Travels around the World... still lots of explorations to go!

.

Chas Miller has organized more than 50 different travel programs and experiences for donors of Sir John Soane’s Museum Foundation, the American Academy in Rome, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation... and now even more with Arrangements Abroad.

Since my last posting of pictures below in 2013, I have now traveled to Cuba a total of 17 times --- plus I've been this period to the UK nine times, Denmark five times, France four times, Italy three times, Austria twice, Norway twice, Sweden, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Czech Republic, Canada, Japan, Russia, Turkey and Iran.  Many of these were with Arrangements Abroad and eleven of these were running trips on behalf of Sir John Soane's Museum Foundation.  Busy times... thus the lack of extra hours for posting slide shows here!

As of February 2021 - a total of 71 countries have been visited.

HAVANA
 .
By far my most famous traveling couple has been Beyonce and Jay-Z, who with their monthers and friends, ventured to Havana to celebrate their 5th Anniversary.  It was an extraordinary couple of days seeing the sights, meeting people, seeing artists and their works, and listening to music.

The Tidewater
of Virginia

This trip marked over 40 years of traveling with my father.  This was his last trip, and fittingly enough to a spot he (and my mother) had enjoyed more than 30 times over the course of many years -  THE TIDES INN in Irvington, Virginia.  He turned 90 the day before we headed south from Baltimore...

L O N D O N

With the start of my work here in the USA for the Sir John Soan'es Museum Foundation, I visited London in May 2005 to explore the Sir John Soane's Museum and related sites.

...and a stay at the famed Travellers Club.

ICEBERGS...

While GREENLAND was only one stop on a North Atlantic adventure sailing from NYC to Iceland, it is probably one of the most exciting places in the world to see!

While this looks like something created by Disney, it is a iceberg shining in the sun.

Cruising northwards from NYC to Iceland with lots of  fascintating ports and places, including GREENLAND.

Scotland

in the Summer

Starting in Edinburgh for a couple of days, we then set off northwards to Perthshire and the 9,000 acre Kinnaird Estate where we'd rented a house for a week . . . Finishing up at the end of the trip with a great day in Stirling!

Scotland

in the Winter

With the celebration of Hogmanay . . . ringing out 2003 and welcoming 2004 . . . we spent time exploring Glasgow, up through the Highlands to The Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle, then down through Perthshire and finishing up in the beautiful city of Edinburgh.

Maldives

In the midst of the Indian Ocean, off the southwestern coast of India, is an independent country comprise of an atoll chain of 1,200+ islands and land spits.  The highest point of land in all of the islands is just 5 feet above sea level -- this country will be the first to disappear with global warming and the rising of the sea!  We spent eight fabulous days in October/November 2003 exploring this remote part of our globe.

The challenge . . . getting to the Maldives via the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and Malaysia!

While there are more direct routes, this proved a great chance to explore other spots . . . leaving Newark on a non-stop 13.5 hour flight to Dubai, then I opted for a layover of 8-daylight hours to re-explore Dubai (I'd originally ventured there in 1986).  Then that evening, the flight was 8 hours to Kuala Lumpur arriving early morning.  Spent 2 days and 1 night in a hotel before the final 5 hour flight to the Maldives . . . The homebound journey included briefer visits to both KL and Dubai, plus stopovers in Colombo, Sir Lanka and Karachi, Pakistan.       >>Jump direct to these photos>>

Ireland

Traveling to the

Northwestern Counties

Exploration in June 2003 was to parts of the country that typically close down to tourists outside of the summer season . . . Co. Sligo, Donegal, Mayo, and a return again to Co. Clare.  Plus a short drive into Northern Ireland for the first time to visit Co. Fermanagh and the incomparable Florence Court, now part of the National Trust.
