27 December 2010

The day after the Blizzard of 2010...

By the afternoon, the skies opened up and it seemed like an amazing time for a drive.  So from 3pm to 4:15pm or so, we drove back and forth along Bellevue Avenue and Ocean Avenue taking in the sights, the whipping seas and the light of the setting sun.  What a glorious afternoon.  Then back home to resume normal work, etc.

15 Mt. Vernon Street shoveled out already - thanks to Jamie!
The Atlantic whipping up off Brenton Point.
Clarendon Court - This lovely house built in 1904 was made most famous by being the home of Sunny and Claus Von Bulow.
It is now on the market for over $15 million.
The Elms - sadly the facade faces east so no sun set light.

26 December 2010

The Blizzard of 2010!

Fierce winds and driving snow was the story of the day... and the night.  Ultimately we got about 10 inches - this compared to our home in Lakeville Connecticut where it was reported at 24 inches!

The Old Colony House or State House.
The houses across the street from us.
Trinity in the swirl of snow.

Christmas Eve at Trinity Church

We attended a service in this beautiful 1726 historic structure which started at 10:30pm and went till 12:30am. One of the many highlights, was that the chandeliers over the center aisle were lit by candlelight and when the song Silent Night came up for the choir and congregation, they turned off the modern lights so the church just glowed with candlelight.

Trinity at night - note they don't have green lights... that is the camera somehow.
One can see just the tops of peoples heads sticking above the wooden boxes for seating.

Monday, 20 December 2010 - Our first swirls of snow... let the season begin!

We drove to the furthest spot down Ledge Road to get to Cliff Walk...
this area is known as Land's End.  Part of the walk here is not paved,
you just climb over bedrock to experience this amazing place.

Saturday, 18 December 2010

Attended a grand dinner dance hosted at The Breakers,
one of the most famous of all the historic mansions.
The benefit evening was for the Preservation Society of Newport County.

Thanksgiving Day 2010

Thanksgiving Day, 25 November 2010 - The Rocks at Kings Beach with a calm Atlantic Ocean. A special moment as we celebrated 15 years together and the private exchange of rings. [As an event planner, I should have had a photographer there waiting to capture the moment... but didn't. Thus the individual shots below...] Maritime signal flags: C A M | M B C | N P T

Labor Day 2010

Stopped for an overnight in Newport on our way back from Cape Cod.

As we'd been curious about houses...  we set up an appointment to see three rentals... and boom... we suddenly were seriously thinking about becoming part-time winter residents.  Later in September that would become reality as I signed our lease.

Just wandering... here one of the many great houses in town.

A Mid-August Weekend 2010

We stopped for lunch at Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island.  This resort had only recently reopened after a major renovation and rejuvenation.  What a spectacular setting... and delicious too.

Then onto Newport for the weekend.
